The rules of entertainment are altering rapidly. Moviegoers, in the present day, are diffident about a film wholly centered on grim societal subject matters. Nor are they enthused about a conventional mainstream motion picture. What works for the discerning spectator in the current scenario is an evenhanded permutation. So does KAHAANI encompass the all-important blend? Let’s explore…

This is indeed a favorable moment for a Hindi movie heroine, unlike in times of yore. She is being looked up to as an actor with strengths, limitations, failures and accomplishments. She is geared up to conduct experiments, equipped to explore uncharted territories. This also goes for one of the most proficient actresses of our times, Vidya Balan. The famed actress has persistently ambled the untrodden path vis-a-vis her choice of movies, PAA, ISHQIYA, NO ONE KILLED JESSICA, THE DIRTY PICTURE and now KAHAANI…

Come to think of it, the Hindi film industry is branded for creating movies from a male perspective. The women’s stories are not really exemplified conscientiously. But, out of the blue, the souk of women-centric flicks is fast turning out to be a bankable genre. KAHAANI is a commanding story, has an authoritative central character, has several dominant and thought-provoking moments, which makes it an all-persuasive film.

Vidya Bagchi [Vidya Balan] arrives in Kolkata from London to find her missing husband. Seven month pregnant and alone in a festive city, she begins a relentless search for her husband. With nothing to rely on, except fragments from her memories about him, all clues seem to reach a dead end when everyone tries to convince Vidya that her husband does not exist. She slowly realizes that nothing is what it seems. In a city soaked in lies, Vidya is determined to unravel the truth about her husband — for herself and her unborn child, even at the cost her own life.

A woman on her way to be a mother… it’s the biggest changeover in the life of a lady. And when her spouse vanishes at this crucial juncture, how do you come to terms with the fact that he has gone missing? People you approach to seek help assert that there exists no such entity. But you are certain that this individual exists and that you are carrying the proof of his existence: his child. The concept is truly striking and attention-grabbing.

Sujoy, with the skills of a master storyteller, amalgamates a human story in a thriller format. There is a certain uninhibited genuineness in Sujoy’s direction. Besides, the writing is outstanding [story: Sujoy Ghosh, Advaita Kala; additional screenplay: Suresh Nair, Nikhil Vyas]; one seldom witnesses such aptitude and deliberation to specifications. Without doubt, Sujoy gives it his best shot with gleaming sincerity. Positioned alongside an intimidating environment of Kolkata’s tapered side streets and constricted alleyways, the setting is ahead of credence in its realism.

KAHAANI is a captivating recount from its commencement to conclusion. Sujoy has fashioned enough scenes around the plot that keep the viewer on the edge. Besides, fragments of tongue in cheek humor pop up when you least anticipate to liven up the solemn plot. Yet, the storyteller never deviates from the fundamental somber remise. His attempt in infusing drama and pace in the narrative makes the movie accessible to the mainstream spectators. Just one itsy bitsy snag: Had the culmination been lucidly elucidated in a more simplistic fashion for the common man to decipher, the film would have created an even stronger impact.

Vishal-Shekhar’s music is addictive. The title track is akin to an excursion of the City of Joy, while Amitabh Bachchan’s rendition of ‘Ekla Cholo Re’ is mesmeric. The cinematography is arresting. The DoP [Setu] captures the essence of Kolkata magnificently on celluloid.

Post THE DIRTY PICTURE, the admiration for the National Award winning actress Vidya has scaled woozy altitudes and let me affirm, the supremely talented actress delivers a performance that’s at par with her former accomplishments. She, very nonchalantly, re-evaluates screen acting in KAHAANI. She arrives with yet another enlivening, commanding character in this film and her portrayal of an expecting, frantic lady on a mission to trace her husband’s inexplicable vanishing in an unfamiliar land is sure to win laurels by assessors and cinegoers uniformly. This is indeed Vidya’s most eye-catching act. Her body language, her confidence, her vulnerability, her fury, her grief, all fall upon wonderfully.

Parambrata Chattopadhyay, as Rana, is a revelation. What a tremendous actor. His sequences with Vidya are truly wonderful. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, as Khan, proves yet again that he’s an exceptional performer. He makes a stunning impact. Dhritiman Chatterjee is, as always, efficient, Saswata Chatterjee is effective and Darshan Jariwala is perfect. Indraneil Sengupta is splendid in a challenging role. The two child actors [the boy at the lodge and the boy at the tea stall] are a complete natural.

On the whole, KAHAANI works big time because Vidya Balan makes it come alive. It is several notches above the stuff we’ve been subjected to in the past. The movie triumphs in evoking emotions. You experience compassion, resentment, defenselessness and triumph at a variety of stages. A wonderful movie-going experience, you come out feeling a sense of pride, pleasure and fulfillment after having watched KAHAANI. Just do not miss it. Hugely recommended!

Be forewarned: Don’t look for logic here! Escapist cinema or films that suspend logic, but entertain, are often at the receiving end of assessors and evaluators. Movies helmed by Rohit Shetty, Sajid Khan, veterans like David Dhawan, Priyadarshan and Anees Bazmee, besides the recent box-office bonanzas featuring Salman Khan, have had to face vicious and destructive criticism. Despite this, films fitting in the genre [escapist fares] have found colossal consent from spectators across the board, primarily because they serve the purpose of keeping you entertained in those two hours. It’s like choosing fast food from one of those popular joints. You may argue, it’s low on nutritional value, but it does satisfy your taste buds nonetheless.Riding high on the success of the runaway hit YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA, Samir Karnik comes up with CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI, a film that makes no pretensions of rewriting the rules of the game. Following the footsteps of his peers, this one’s aimed at the masses and not the inflexible critics who rarely give their approval or high ratings to these hardcore entertainers. The sole mantra of these movies is to make you grin/chuckle/giggle at the most inane jokes, most frivolous situations… logic be damned.

CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI is not a movie to be taken seriously. Neither does it boast of an intensely ingenious tale. Nor is there an intellectual appealing screenplay in place, right from commencement till the very conclusion. But what keeps the film going are some ridiculously comical sequences. Despite the emphasis on barmy and wacky situations, despite the jokes being puerile and infantile, the movie keeps you entertained for most parts, especially in its second hour. The motive, therefore, is served.

CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI is set against the backdrop of Rajasthan, during the course of a four-day wedding. It orbits around a Rajput family unit [Anupam Kher, Anita Raaj, Chandrachur Singh, Mukul Dev, Sushant Singh, Tusshar] and a family from Punjab [Om Puri, Farida Jalal, Kulraj Randhawa]. Tusshar is a Rajasthani who loves Kulraj, a Punjabi. But the patriarch of the family [Anupam Kher] is a staunch Rajput, which prompts Tusshar to hide Kulraj’s identity. All hell breaks loose when the truth is out!

Like YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA, CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI has a plethora of actors essaying over the top characters. Also, like his previous film, Karnik reserves the best for the second hour. In fact, the first hour doesn’t quite work. The humor appears forced, the jokes are corny, the one-liners are plain gibberish, the double entendres are unsavory. Most significantly, the laugh-out-loud moments are lacking. The sequences featuring Kulraj with Chandrachur Singh, Mukul Dev and Sushant Singh are humdrum and only slacken the tempo. A lot many films lose spark post interval, but not in this case. It’s a zany and madcap ride from the interlude spot, replete with humorous gags, daft situations and uproarious dialogue. The entire Pappi Sardar episode, though asinine, is amusing nonetheless. You only yearn that some of the gags were even more side splitting. The conclusion, a replica of YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA, is chaotic. Nonetheless, it makes for one crazy viewing.

At heart, CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI is a love story, but Karnik sprinkles the plot with ingredients that tantamount to entertainment in the lexis of the hoi polloi. Also, this wild-ride is smartly paced, with one episode following another in quick succession. But Karnik could’ve done with a superior script. The film falls short of remaining connected consistently, while the hilarity quotient varies from riotous to humdrum. CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI has multiple music composers scoring the music, but the tracks that stand out are ‘Kangna Tera Ni’, ‘Chandni O Meri Chandni’ and the track in the end credits. The cinematography is alright, while the dialogue are witty at times.

Tusshar is at his boisterous best here. In fact, the actor strikes a right balance between understated and animated, getting the wit of the character just right. Besides, there’s a lot of verve in his character; he is vibrant, energetic and is likely to endear himself to the viewer, especially when he enacts the part of Pappi Sardar. Kulraj is a livewire and reminds you of Preity Zinta on several occasions. She performs very well. The film has a strong supporting cast and while veterans Anupam Kher and Om Puri, expectedly, dominate the show, it’s a pleasure to watch Chandrachur Singh after a hiatus. He’s proficient. Anita Raaj too makes an appearance after a gap and she’s simply wonderful. I’d like to single out Rahul Singh. He excels. Farida Jalal gets no scope. Mukul Dev and Sushant Singh try too hard, while Johny Lever is wasted. Ditto for Harish.

On the whole, uninhibited and naughty, CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI is an enjoyable madcap comic caper with adequate frenzied moments to keep you in your seats. A good laugh is assured!

Unusual pairings often involve a big risk. They may work, they may not. And affect the movie big time. This week’s release, Jodi Breakers, brings together the sweet, chubby Madhavan and the sexyBipasha Basu as the professional couple to are out there to help troubled couples.

Sid (R.Madhavan), a recent divorcee, thinks marriage is a one way ticket to ruin your life and helps breakup the marriages of those who think so too. Enter Sonali (Bipasha Basu), who though with an opposite view, teams up with him to break the jodis of unhappy couples as painlessly as possible. All’s well until a case they take up ends wrongly and they take it upon themselves to fix the mess they created.

If you look at the basic storyline closely, it pretty much resembles the 2010 sleeper hit Band Baaja Baaraat. Boy and girl come together as business partners – only here it’s to breakup marriages and not make them – they do well, celebrate, get drunk and end up having sex, girl in love but boy is not, they breakup the partnership but come together to do that last one deal. Having said that, Jodi Breakers is not even close to Band Baaja Baarat in terms of story and execution. It’s one of the movies which has potential but doesn’t quite make it. Ashwini Chaudhary, whose earlier work was the disaster Good Boy, Bad Boy, definitely improves in terms of direction but still it’s quite messy. The movie doesn’t stick to one genre which works against it. It’s not fully a rom-com, not a drama nor a sex comedy. It just hangs somewhere in between. The movie works in bits and parts but never as a whole. As a writer, Ashwini hasn’t exactly added anything new although the twist before the interval does make the movie more interesting. Dialogues are funny, often too filmy. Music by Salim-Sulaiman is decent although the picturizations of the songs are really tacky. Kunwara, which is one of the favorite peppy numbers of everyone is ruined by the way the song has been filmed. Cinematography by Arun Varma is good especially the way Greece has been captured.

Coming to the performances, the Madhavan-Bipasha Jodi somehow doesn’t work. You just can’t point out what is exactly wrong but something, somewhere there’s definitely a miss. Maddy has always been a wonderful actor and he shines in this movie as well. I just have one teensy problem. Why did a cute guy like him have to be all pudgy and double-chinned when he could have looked the sleek suave guy his character definitely is? Bipasha as usual, well, looks sexy
although unlike her many recent films, she plays a simple sweet girl. Manages it pretty well most of the times however some scenes – like the drunk sequences – you know she has to improve. Omi Vaidya (playing Nano), I have one request for you. Please get yourself a new gag and try to do so before you are stereotyped. It is not funny anymore. Omi tries a 3 Idiots-kinda speech which though not half as hilarious is the only scene which comes out funny. Milind Sonam and Dipannita Sharma play their parts decently and surprisingly come across as a realistic couple. Mrinalini Sharma as the vamp delivers what she could in her limited role, Helen as the stern grandma is adorable and the support cast is passable.

Overall, Jodi Breakers could have turned out to be a pretty hilarious ride. However due to faulty writing and direction what you get is a half-baked meal. A one-time watch.

Dibakar’s upcoming movie Shanghai is already doing the rounds as the biggest thriller of the year and is based on the political scenario of India.

Dibakar has cast some brilliant yet unconventional talent, Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin and the power house Prosenjit Chatterjee.

The best part of this ensemble of cast and crew is that they are all praise for each other. Abhay, who will be working with Banerjee for the second time, said “Dibakar is one of the finest directors. I had the opportunity to work with him in Oye Lucky Lucky Oye. I love the way he creates his own world through his scripts. He has a brilliant way of telling stories”.

Dibakar couldn’t be happier with his star cast. Sources quoted him saying, “I’m happy these guys trusted my script and went with their gut, doing a 180 degree turn-around with their existing images. Who’d have imagined Abhay playing a South Indian, sporting a moustache, or Emraan moving totally away from his romantic image? Besides these two, I also think two other actors who are brilliant are Bengal’s superstar Prosenjit, and Kalki Koechlin”.

Now with all the hype built around the movie, the fans are waiting with eager anticipation, for the movie to release. PVR Pictures will be releasing the movie Shanghai on June 8, 2012.

Director: Raaghav Dar
Cast: Prateik, Kalki Koechlin, Arjun Mathur and Makrand Deshpande
Release Date: 2011-10-14 00:00:00
Quick Take: Funny, quirky and cute
My Friend Pinto is like a modern day adaptation of Charlie Chaplin’s tramp stories. You know the kind where the bumbling village idiot stands out like a sore thumb in the big city. And yet his untamed charm melts the hearts of most city folk. That’s exactly what the film does to the audience as well. Some tried and tested gags, along with cheesy song and dance and Prateik’s inimitable boyish charm melt your hearts like chocolate in an oven.

The simpleton Michael Pinto (Prateik) arrives in Mumbai to stay with his friend and almost instantaneously doesn’t fit in. He stumbles around until he meets his buddy Sameer (Arjun Mathur). And rest of the way too, right till the end, Pinto tumbles all over the city and into the lives of gangsters, street urchins, gamblers and fighting lovers, affecting everyone with his innocence and smile.

This is classic comedy of errors and a slice of Mumbai’s underbelly where even the most notorious of bad guys have a heart. So when Pinto meets Don (Makrand Deshpande) and shares stories of his mother’s lessons, the Don breaks into a melodramatic fit. Along the way you get some odd ball romance between Prateik and Kalki Koechlin and that warms the cockles of your heart too.

Director Raaghav Dar’s vision of creating an old world charm with slightly mad characters is a fresh idea. But he strives too hard with his physical gags. Like the time when Prateik dangles off a building ledge only to crash into someone’s home through the window. Moments like these don’t quite gel with the film’s otherwise quirky narrative. And what really steals the show is Prateik’s charisma. Mind you, his appearance and disposition is tailor made for his character’s quirks. Even though Prateik’s performance isn’t a polished act, it’s his patsy aura that makes you fall in love with him.

My Friend Pinto won’t leave you splitting with laughter, it’ll put a million dollar smile on your face. Because when Prateik flashes his set of pearly whites you’ll have no choice but to oblige. And if you’re a thorough romantic, then the final line of the film will seal the deal for you.

Quick Take: Nice but painstakingly slow

Right of the bat, let it be said that Nagesh Kukunoor’s Mod is strictly for the patient audience who like their stories to flow at a leisurely pace. The film has an art house cinema feel to it thanks to its niche treatment and narrative style. It shows promise like Nagesh’s earlier films Iqbal and Dor but fails to deliver the same excellence.

The film has an interesting plot that sadly doesn’t manage to engage your interest throughout its runtime. It’s a love story between Aranya (Ayesha Takia) and Andy (Rannvijay Singh Singa). The conflict of the story arrives when Aranya comes to know about Andy’s psychological disorder. There’s a twist in the tale just before the interval of the film and that catches you by surprise. On the downside the film’s story loses its charm because of its sluggish speed and extremely slow-placed screenplay. In fact, the initial 30 minutes pan out at such abysmal pace that it can test the audiences’ patience. Nagesh takes way too much time to establish each character.

The film has its moments too. You feel a lump in your throat when you watch Aranya’s determination in getting Andy out of his mess. Also, the climax leaves you with a good feeling of euphoria. The film is set in a picturesque North Indian town named Ganga. Cinematography by Chirantan Das is excellent. He captures the hill station like a beautiful painting and you can’t help but get submerged in its beauty. The music of the film doesn’t impress and the songs seem to hinder the experience of the film.

This movie belongs to Ayesha Takia. She looks graceful and is delightfully restrained. After doing miniscule roles in London Dreams and Action Replayy, Rannvijay Singh gets the opportunity to show his acting skills as the lead. He doesn’t disappoint. He handles the role of a schizophrenic well. Tanvi Azmi is brilliant playing Aranya’s agony aunt.

For its fresh concept, alluring cinematography and performances by its principal characters, Mod can be a decent one-time watch.

Quick Take: Totally ‘like’able

Just like you can’t judge a book by its cover, don’t let the name Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge and its promo be a put-off. It particularly portrays ‘The Facebook Generation’ of today amongst collegians and teenagers. The movie is gritty, entertaining and slapstick. It does have a Yash Raj Films feel to it, but with a breath of fresh air. Their latest initiation – Y Films should only prove to be a boon since it taps the largest market; that being the youth.

The story is of four collegian’s Vishal Bhatt (Saqib Saleem), Preity Sen (Saba Azad), Rahul Sareen (Nishant Dahiya) and Malvika Kelkar (Tara Dsouza). Vishal’s the writer for Rahul’s songs while Preity’s a photographer. Rahul’s the crush of Preity’s life; similarly Malvika is Vishal’s fantasy. And in a bid to take matters ahead, comes the complexities two Facebook profiles bring. Fake ids, fake chats and fake people soon turn into a messy but sweet affair. What Preity and Vishal don’t realise is that they’re actually chatting, rather getting to know one another instead of their actual eye-candies.

Nupur Asthana – the director of the movie has got it bang-on with the totally confused, irresponsible or immature teenagers. Even the storyline’s pretty tight without letting your predictions getting the better of you. And it makes it all the more relative especially with the MMS scandals, pranks and the dating scenario. Eventually, Saqib and Saba are the two budding actors to look out for with their brilliant chemistry and comic timing.

What really works is the young and exciting cast and crew who bring a fresh and twisted take to a clichéd teenage love story. The music’s another plus point with the catchy mixes of Raghu Dixit and the witty and young lyrics by Anvita Dutt. Don’t be surprised to catch yourself dancing to these peppy numbers, the next time you walk into a club. Also, don’t think too much, just go for this short, light-hearted movie, trust us, you won’t be disappointed!

Director: Shawn Levy
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lily, Dakota Goyo and Anthony Mackie
Release Date: 2011-10-07 00:00:00
Quick Take: Lacks lustre

We like underdog stories. We really do. That’s why we cheer our throats hoarse for Rocky on every repeat view. So when Real Steel promises the underdog story of a robot boxer we feel our pulse race. Like Rocky, when Atom the enigmatic robot takes a pounding and still has the gall to stand up and fight, we feel a shot of adrenaline rush through our veins. That’s what Real Steel does best. It evokes strong sentiments of aspiration and euphoria from within. But sadly that’s reserved for the climax of the film, the final bout of robot boxing. Rest of the way this feels like a half-baked potboiler simmering under the pressure of its director trying to direct and its actors trying to act.

Hugh Jackman plays Charlie an ex prize fighter who’s turned a robot handler cum manager in the near future. His big problem is that he’s a bit of a hotshot who can’t tell the right from the wrong. So time and again he wrecks his robots by being over confident. Jackman’s character and his story is eerily similar to that of Sylvester Stallone from Over TheTop (1987). The point being it’s not very novel and slightly clichéd. Also there’s his son Max (Dakota Goyo) who’s a chip off the old block and he’s the one who shows Charlie the man he can be.

Real Steel’s strength is the robot boxing and its weakness is its human emotions. There are about half a dozen cinematic liberties that go into establishing conflict between father and son. And that really steels all the thunder from the film.
Jackman tries too hard to be a detached and responsibility shirking kind of guy, but his effort doesn’t quite pay off. The character that creates all the intrigue is actually the robot Atom. There’s a mystery around his existence and about his demeanor. It’s really like ET. He’s a bit special and he do things that charm. He’s a heck of a dancer too.

Watching Real Steel is really like watching a Salman Khan film. You know the kind where they say, ‘you should leave your brains at home’. You have to overlook a few dozen flaws to actually enjoy an underdog story really rustles up quite a storm at the end. But then if you’re not the type to accept shortcomings in a film, this can be quite a let down. Shawn Levy fails to create the magic he could have.

Sample this: Prime time show, the theatre is packed with an audience awaiting a laugh riot. But not a single soul smiles through the two-hour run time.

It’s sad to see comedy in our films stoop to this level. What’s even more disappointing is to see the once christened king of comedy totally losing hold of his craft. Director David Dhawan, the man who made the country laugh through the ‘90s falls flat on his face with Rascals. His brand of films have always been mindless but they assured slapstick fun. In Rascals, there’s none. All we get is noise, commotion and idiocy.

The film revolves around conmen Chetan (Sanjay Dutt) and Bhagat (Ajay Devgn) trying to woo a sparsely clad Khushi (Kangna Ranaut). That’s the maximum you can talk about the film’s story. One-upmanship has been a part of Hindi films’ folklore for long. Even David Dhawan’s own Deewana Mastana (1997) with Anil Kapoor and Govinda and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar presented this subject with wit. The comedy in this Rascals is devoid of any originality and freshness. The gags are stale and tasteless, especially the ones which involve women. For example, in a scene where Sanjay Dutt tries to put on underwear on an unconscious woman, he says, “It’s so much easier to take off a woman’s clothes than to put them back on.” Tsk tsk. Also, Kangna Ranaut drops clothes at the drop of a hat. After a point you feel as if the film was to showcase Kangna’s erm… newly developed assets. Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn spend most of the time maneuvering their hands on her body.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is Yunus Sejawal’s screenplay. It’s inconsistent and uneventful. As a result, the film looks like a collage of commotions. David Dhawan’s films are known for their synchronized rhyming dialogue. Sadly, Sanjay Chhel’s rhyming gimmicks in the film seem forced and worn-out. It’s very evident that the film was made in hurry and / or absolute negligence. Even a layman can make out the horrendous mistakes in lip sync. In one of the songs, Sanjay Dutt’s lip movements do not match the lyrics at all.

Such films rely on the chemistry and camaraderie between the male leads. Alas! Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn just don’t get the tuning right. Their individual performances are just about okay. However, Kangna Ranaut is the funniest thing about the film. Obviously unintentionally. You still cringe because of her diction. In the film too, Sanjay Dutt compares Kangna’s voice to a dog’s screech when its tail is stamped upon. Enough said. Lisa Haydon looks smokin’ hot but the bad dubbing doesn’t do any favours for her either.

When you walk out of the theatre, you wonder when the onslaught of such films will end? Probably when we stop watching them.

Love, commitments, relationships – it is most difficult to explore a topic that has been dealt with a billion times already in Bollywood. Love Breakups Zindagi, a slice of life does just that.

Directed and written by Sahil Sangha, the movie stars Zayed Khan and Diya Mirza essaying the lead roles in the film. Love Breakups Zindagi is the first movie produced under the banner of Bonfire entertainment, which is a Dia Mirza-Sahil Sangha-Zayed Khan production company. Love Breakups Zindagi explores relationships and talks about love, romance and breakup. The plot has two stories going side by side – Zayed-Dia-Vaibhav and Cyrus-Tisca.

Love Breakups Zindagi‘s extended title ‘a slice of life’ is apt as the film boasts of many sequences which happens on a day to day basis and is easy to relate to. Sahil Sangha is a fine story teller and has made an honest effort to narrate the story as sensitively and simply as possible without making it too hushy-mushy. However, Love Breakups Zindagi lets you down completely in the second half as the story is dragged on and on until the end. The climax, in fact is even more disheartening. The film lacks crisp editing and that clearly shows.

Music by Salim-Sulaiman is top notch. The song ‘Rab Rakha’ is powerful while ‘Rozaana’ is a nice and foot tapping soundtrack. ‘Main Se Meena Se’, the remix version is amazing. Full marks to cinematographer Aseem Bajaj. The breathtakingly beautiful picturesque and landscape has been beautifully captured by the camera.

Story

Jai (Zayed Khan), who is a marketing executive in Delhi is of the opinion that opposites attract and hence is dating a bossy girl Radhika (Pallavi Sharda), whose personality is opposite of his own. Meanwhile, Naina (Dia Mirza), who is a photographer by profession based out of Mumbai makes an attempt to make her relationship work with her workaholic investment banker boyfriend Dhruv (Vaibhav Talwar).

Jai’s best buddy Arjun (Satyadeep Misra) and Naina’s good friend Gayatri (Auritra Ghosh) are getting married in Chandigarh. That is where Jai and Naina meet for the first time. Though the two vibe very well, it falls a little short of love as both are already in a committed relationship.
Meanwhile, we see Jai and Arjun’s friend Govind (Cyrus Sahukar) getting close to Arjun’s aunt Sheila (Tisca Chopra). Govind is an interesting character, who is twice divorced and still is open to making new girl friends.

After the wedding, everybody goes back to the routine. However, Jai happens to visit Mumbai for some work and decides to catch up with Dia. Meanwhile, Govind is also seen having coffee dates with Sheila.
Shahrukh Khan plays himself in the film and says in the end, “Eventually in life and films everything has a happy ending”.

Performance
Love Breakups Zindagi truly belongs to Zayed Khan and Dia Mirza. Zayed Khan is outstanding and so is Dia Mirza. Zayed’s depiction of emotional sequences is truly worth watching. Dia has done complete justice to her role as Naina. The character suits her perfectly well. Tisca Chopra, Cyrus Sahukar, Satyadeep Misra, Auritra Ghosh and Vaibhav Talwar are natural actors and have done a wonderful job. Umang Jain is okay whereas Farida Jalal is lovable. However, Soni Razdan doesn’t have much to do in the film.

Love Breakups Zindagi has special appearances by Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Riteish Deshmukh and Shahrukh Khan.

Overall, Love Breakups Zindagi is strictly okay – can be watched at least once.

Cast: Dia Mirza, Zayed Khan, Sahil Sangha, Tisca Chopra, Cyrus Sahukar, Satyadeep Misra, Auritra Ghosh, Vaibhav Talwar, Umang

Director: Sahil Sangha

Producer: Sahil Sangha, Dia Mirza, Zayed Khan

Co-Producer: Yasmin Jain

Music Director: Salim Merchant, Sulaiman Merchant
