A well known name in Bengali cinema, Paoli walked the red carpet at the Cannes film festival earlier this year for the premier of her film ‘Chatrak’ (Mushrooms).
The film courted controversy because of her full frontal nude scene. “For ‘Hate Story’, I was hunting a young woman who could meet two basic criteria – she should be an accomplished actress and she needed to be uninhibited about her sexual energy.“It was during this hunt when I came across Paoli’s name. When I read out the script to her she immediately agreed to the bold scenes that are an integral part of the film,” Agnihotri told PTI.‘Hate Story’ is being written and produced by filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, who is known for his films like ‘Jism’, ‘Murder’ and ‘Kasoor’.Agnihotri insists that Paoli fits in well with the erotic genre that he is exploring with the film. “This is a genre which is unexplored in Bollywood. We have made films like ‘Jism’ and ‘Murder’ before but ‘Hate Story’ is going to take a different dimension all the way.  “Not only would it be much more uninhibited than it’s other Bollywood counterparts, it will also end up raising quite a few eyebrows,” he added.The film also stars Nikhil Dwivedi in the lead and is scheduled to hit theaters next year.“We have started shooting for the film. It is going to be an extended schedule near New Delhi and we are looking at wrapping up the film in two months flat,” Agnihotri said. The director is all praises for Paoli.“I was amazed to see that she has over a dozen films to her credit in the shortest time possible. She has been directed by the likes of Rituparno Ghosh and Gautam Ghose while her co-stars have been Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta and Parambrata Chatterjee.“With ‘Hate Story’ I am expecting a lot more since the role of the leading lady is indeed challenging for anyone to play, leave aside someone like Paoli who would be making her debut in Hindi cinema.”Agnihotri has previously made films like ‘Chocolate’ and ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’.“It has been an exciting journey for me and I am looking forward to it. With this film I want to bring something new, untried and untested to Bollywood cinema,” he said.

Silvi Ajmi Chandni was arrested from Bay View Hotel along with film producer Golam Sarwar, music director Kazi Jamal and another person named Delowar Hosain. A team of Rapid Action Battalion raided the Bay View Hotel’s room number 304 and recovered large volume of Yaba, empty cans of beer as well as used and unused condoms. Silvi Ajmi Chandni is the daughter of Zahurul Islam of Sutrapur in Bogra district, who stepped into film industry few years back, after she won the photo contest organized by entertainment magazine Binodon Bichitra.

Rapid Action Battalion said, the racket of Golam Sarwar and Silvi Ajmi Chandni, along with a large number people are involved in trafficking in Yaba as well as are running anti-social and criminal activities.

On the other hand, sources within the film industry told Weekly Blitz that, a new actor in Dhaka’s film industry has hand behind the arrest of Golam Sarwar and Silvi Ajmi Chandni, as the actor was not signed in a movie produced by Nazim Uddin [former chairman of Hasnabad union council]. Sources further said, this actor, who is known in the cine-circle in Dhaka for his “intimate connection” with the law enforcing agencies has been playing from the behind the scene in giving a “proper lesson” to film producer Golam Sarwar, as the hero was recently not signed in a movie produced by Nazim Uddin, though his name was declared during a program organized by Nazim Uddin, who is the main owner of Nadim-Nafim Films, where Golam Sarwar is an executive producer.

Following the arrest of actor Silvi Ajmi Chandni, cine producer Golam Sarwar, music director Kazi Jamal and a friend of Nazim Uddin, the same actor has been making frantic bids in mobilizing the law enforcing agencies in taking series of legal actions against Golam Sarwar in particular.

Meanwhile on December 22, 2011 during late hours, Gulshan police arrested film actress Keya [Sabrina Sultana Iti] from an apartment along with 10-12 females, who were reportedly involved in anti-social activities.

Being arrested, actress Keya suppressed her identity and told Gulshan police that her real name is Sabrina Iti and denied that she is actress Keya of Dhaka film industry. But sources in the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation as well as Shilpi Shomiti [Association of Artistes] told Weekly Blitz that, real name of actress Keya is Sabrina Sultana Iti. It also said Keya has been involved in anti-social activities for some time. A producer in recent past published series of intimate photographs with actress Sabrina Sultana Iti alias Keya, and it was assumed that Keya was already spending private times with that producer.

Several producers in the country are already in deep trouble following the arrest of actress Sabrina Sultana Iti alias Keya, as she has been arrested on charge of prostitution and anti-social activities. It may be mentioned here that, Keya went to United States of America few years back and married an expatriate Bangladeshi. She was divorced couple of years later and she returned to Bangladesh with the hope of re-entering the cine industry.

With the arrest of actress Silvi and Keya, there is hint of several more arrests in the days to come. Intelligence units of various law enforcing agencies are keeping eyes on a number of the members of Bangladeshi entertainment including Shimla, Tinni, Tarin, Srabanti etc, who are alleged to be regularly taking Yaba. Shimla is also reportedly running anti-social activities at her residence in Dhaka’s Malibagh area and also involved in dealing in drugs.

ঈদে মুক্তি পাচ্ছে জাহিদ হাসান-মৌসুমী ও মোশাররফ করিমের আলোচিত চলচ্চিত্র ‘প্রজাপতি’। এনটিভি’র প্রযোজনায় এটি নির্মাণ করেছেন ছোটপর্দার জনপ্রিয় নির্মাতা মুহাম্মদ মোস্তফা কামাল রাজ। গত ২০শে আগস্ট ‘প্রজাপতি’ বিনাকর্তনে ছাড়পত্র পাওয়ার পর এখন প্রস্তুতি চলছে ঈদ উৎসবে একযোগে প্রেক্ষাগৃহে মুক্তি দেয়ার। এদিকে মুক্তির আগেই চলচ্চিত্রটির গান গেল এক বছর ধরে দারুণভাবে জনপ্রিয়তা পেয়েছে। হাবিবের একক সুর-সংগীতে ‘প্রজাপতি’তে প্লেব্যাক করেছেন ফেরদৌস ওয়াহিদ, কুমার বিশ্বজিৎ, বালাম, হাবিব, ন্যান্সি, কণা ও সিঁথি সাহা। দুই দিকে বসবাস, প্রজাপতি, টাকা, ছোট ছোট আশাসহ চলচ্চিত্রটির প্রায় সবক’টি গানই গেল এক বছর ধরে বাজছে অডিও বাজারে।

অডিও অ্যালবামের আকাশচুম্বী সফলতার ধারাবাহিকতা চলচ্চিত্রের গল্প এবং নির্মাণশৈলীতেও থাকছে- এমনটাই জানালেন নির্মাতা রাজ। এদিকে ‘প্রজাপতি’র মধ্য দিয়ে চিত্রনায়িকা মৌসুমীর বিপরীতে প্রথমবারের মতো চলচ্চিত্রে কাজ করছেন ছোটপর্দার দুই জনপ্রিয় অভিনেতা জাহিদ হাসান ও মোশাররফ করিম। নির্মাতা মুহাম্মদ মোস্তফা কামাল রাজ বলেন, জীবনের প্রথম চলচ্চিত্র ‘প্রজাপতি’। চলচ্চিত্রটি বিনাকর্তনে ছাড়পত্র পাওয়ায় আমি যারপরনাই আনন্দিত। শুটিং শেষে মনে একটাই ভয় ছিল সম্মানিত সেন্সর বোর্ডের সদস্যরা আমার নির্মাণটি হয়তো পছন্দ করবেন না। কারণ, আমি এফডিসি’র মূল ঘরানার নির্মাতা নই। অথচ দেখছি উল্টো ঘটনা ঘটেছে। সেন্সর বোর্ডের সদস্যরা ছাড়াও সংশ্লিষ্ট অনেকেই আমার নির্মাণের দারুণ প্রশংসা করছেন। বলছেন, এ ধরনের চলচ্চিত্র আরও বেশি বেশি হওয়া উচিত। এদিকে নির্মাতা আরও জানান, আসন্ন কোরবানি ঈদ উৎসবে আমার বিশ্বাস ‘প্রজাপতি’ পুরো বাংলাদেশে উড়বে, রঙ ছড়াবে।

গানের মতোই দর্শক গ্রহণ করবে চলচ্চিত্রটিকে। এরই মধ্যে দেশব্যাপী একযোগে মুক্তি দেয়ার প্রক্রিয়া শুরু করেছি আমরা। চলচ্চিত্রটি পরিবেশনার দায়িত্ব নিয়েছে অমি-বনি কথাচিত্র। এদিকে ‘প্রজাপতি’ মুক্তির আগে এর গল্প সম্পর্কে মুখ খুলতে একদমই রাজি নন নির্মাতা কিংবা নায়িকা-নায়কদ্বয়। তবে এটুকু জানা যায়, প্রজাপতি’তে পাওয়া যাবে নগরের এক মধ্যবিত্ত দম্পতির সংসার-স্বামী এবং প্রেমের নতুন একটা গল্প। চলচ্চিত্রটির গল্প-চিত্রনাট্য এবং সংলাপ তৈরি করেছেন নির্মাতা মুহাম্মদ মোস্তফা কামাল রাজ নিজেই…..

Have you ever tried to wake him up from sleep to revise his lessons or ask him to repeat all the answers he had written in the exam the moment he walks out of school? Finally, have you ever tried to snoop into his personal life or not give him space enough to fall in love? Even if you personally stayed away from such indulgences, chances are that you might have seen someone who would have had traces of these characterestics. That exactly is where ” Icche” scores. In times when parents are as obsessed, if not more, with their child’s career as their own, “Icche” comes as a wake-up call.

The film, based on a Suchitra Bhattacharya tale, is about an ambitious and obsessive mother (Sohini), whose world begins and ends thinking about and controlling the life and career of her son (Samadarshi). She doesn’t want him to be laidback and ambitionless as her hubby (Bratya). So, right from tucking her son’s T-shirt to deciding that he should aspire to go to IIT, Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard – Sohini confuses her own “sacrifices” for Samadarshi’s betterment and ends up trespassing into his life. As a result, she unknowingly starts drifting from her son, who revolts to have a life of his own.

So, from reading his love letters (which are peppered with ‘indecent’ references to ‘gamla gamla chumu’) to doing all that it takes to ensure that Samadarshi breaks up with his first love – Sohini is a delight to watch on screen. Though Sohini comes across as a grey character, she will still garner empathy from the viewer. One might agree to disagree with her conduct but in her own mind, she has clarity for behaving the way she does. Sometimes, her actions might border on being too theatrical but that only heightens the sense of drama in the narrative. Bratya, as Sohini’s passive husband, comes up with another fine on-screen act. Watch out for the scene when he gets to know from Sohini about Samadarshi’s first love. There’s humour, there’s surprise. And there is so much more in that small scene.

Then, of course, there is Samadarshi. Though other movies of Samadarshi have released already, “Icche” is the first film that he had shot for. Convincing and competent, Samadarshi definitely displayed a lot of promise in his first on-screen outing. Don’t miss out the scene where, on the insistence of his mother, he has to take a quizzing contest with another student! The tension is palpable and the well-crafted scene almost grips the viewers just the way sports films do when there are scenes between two teams battling to win the cup. Model-turned-actor Bidita brings in a degree of freshness. Ruplekha, in her debut venture, too deserves mention as much as Parama Bandopadhyay’s act in the role of Sohini’s sister.

Surajit Chatterjee has done a decent job with the film’s music right from Anindya’s “Tor kheyal tor nojor” and Rupam’s “Hallucination” to Anushesh Anadil’s “Boikunther ashore” and Subhajit’s “Amar mon sarakhon”. The background score, at times, is dramatic almost making the audience preempt what’s going to happen. Soumik Halder’s cinematography needs special mention too.

The climax of “Icche” can prompt many to call it a domestic thriller though the film does have its share of OTT moments too. Wonder why Sohini is made to wear lipstick (even at home) for a role that requires her to be a complete natural. But these are minor glitches in a first-time director duo’s project. If “Taare Zameen Par” made many parents do their own bit of soul-searching in the context of Hindi cinema, “Icche”, one can hope, will do its bit in Bengal.

A lone radio jockey playing agony uncle to a tear brigade with problems galore.

Sounds good except, along with solving others’ problems, the RJ spells trouble for the viewers as they are led into a tale of sobby romance and typical confusion. Rahul, the RJ, played by Akash, is a regular guy with a mother asking him to get married. He chooses to wait for the perfect match, meets Tanu (Varsha) on a bus ride from Vizag and loses his heart to her.

Tanu is another troubled soul with a drunkard for a father with problems of his own. He re-marries right after his wife’s death and throws his daughter out of the house. She pitches camp at her friend, Mita’s, (Mou) place and lands a job.

Rahul meets Tanu again and this time, they become good friends. When Rahul is not dancing on sea shores with his dreamgirl, he irons out his caller’s problems. By now, the audience feels the heat underneath their collars and start developing problems of their own. The only saving grace is Shubhashish’s comic timing, who is in love with the demanding office hottie.

A few songs later, on Tanu’s birthday, Rahul unites father and daughter, and invites trouble for himself since, the first thing the obedient daughter does is to agree to marry someone his father has chosen for her. Heartbroken, Rahul drowns himself in liquor and stops his show. Seeing agony uncle in er… agony himself, his friends decide to help him out. Before you know, Rahul and Tanu are united and all is well again!

The song, “O mon amar”, touches a chord with the audience, otherwise, the film tends to be drab with never-ending counselling sessions by a RJ.

Rituparna Sengupta: From ‘Swet Pathorer Thala’ to ‘Warning’: The doe eyed Bengali actress has come a long way from her first movie. From ‘Swet Pathorer Thala’ she will be seen in the latest Bollywood flick – ‘Warning’.

Getting up, close and personal with the guests will be vivacious actor Koel Mallick who will be debuting as a host with Katha O Kahini while Tollywood star Jeet will also be making his presence felt for the first time in television by producing the programme.

Speaking of her tryst with television and experience interacting with common people, Koel said, “The idea I could interact with my audience prompted me to anchor the show. I was very apprehensive initially as I was not sure whether people will confide in me or not. But I thank God that I was able to garner that trust easily and learn about their problems. I must admit that this was much challenging than acting in films. With TV I can now become part of every household.”

Talking of how she prepared for her new avatar that required her to be mentally strong, she said, “I have done my BSc in Psychology so naturally I am sensitive to the human mind. I used to be an agony aunt to my friends who would come to seek my advice (smiles). However, for this show I took guidance of my father and teachers in college. Jeet and I are very good friends and its always great to work with him, though he always pulled my leg while shooting!”

About the show, Jeet revealed, “I wanted to bring the grass root public to the forefront, since entertainment is my known territory this was the best place to realise my wish. From Shah Rukh Khan to Venkash films, everyone is investing on small screen, the best part is that films are made for the people but this show is with and by the people. So it gives you a scope to connect with your fans and build a rapport with them to know what they want.”

“Kotha O Kahini deals with real people, real stories of pain and suffering that will be poured out of their hearts in a tête-à-tête with Koel. I feel women are really good confidants and listeners since Koel had been a student of behavioral science and has positive attitude she would make a good presenter. This will not be a celebrity-oriented show at all, but at times we may have distinguished guests,” added Jeet who also assures that this 65 episode stint will not be controversial like Sach Ka Samna.
